Hi,

During the kickstarter I asked about the inclusion of Steam achievements, trading cards and all that stuff, and you said you'd definitely work on it if you get on Steam. Now, I don't know how the Greenlight process is coming along, but while replaying the original and looking at some additional information I though up a bunch of possible achievements for the remake.
Alright, this will be quite a bit of stuff. It's based on what the original game already tracks, as well as stuff I came up with. Let me know what you think, and feel free to add your own ideas.

I think it's funny that "Save the Universe" is buried somewhere in there even though that's the goal of the game and the rest is just fodder for achievement nuts (OK, disregarding high scores obviously, the real goal of the game). Tellingly, you're also missing wizard mode -- though I suppose you could make that one secret. :)

Personally I hate achievements of the form "do X 100 times" especially if it's just a matter of time before you do if you continue playing the game, but I do see how it works psychologically for people who care about that sort of thing.

Thanks for the reply! I tried to put the ideas in some kind of order, but couldn't really sort everything properly. Also, I'm still not that good at the game (haven't managed to actually "beat" it), so I'm sure there are plenty of things still missing.
I understand what you're saying about the achievements that are more grindy in nature. I prefer more interesting ones myself (and I hope I managed to include enough of those as ideas), but I feel they've become somewhat of a staple, too, so I didn't want to exclude those kinds.

hmm, nice list! here's a few I thought of - most of these are definitely for cheevo hunters.

Save the Universe twice in one game.
Save the Universe in a Tournament Mode game.
Save the Universe in a Challenge Mode game.

Spot 2 continents at the same time 5 times in one game.
Clear Channel Tunnel having made all shots before the final shot lights.
Clear Robot War by using an uppercut at 80% damage or more.
Clear Antimatter Plant by shooting lit orbits at least 3 times (final shot counts).
Clear Chariot Race by destroying all other chariots.
Clear Pyramid by shooting the lit shots in order from right to left (not counting the first shot).
Clear Volcano having collected and dumped 5 loads of water.
Clear Dinosaur Stampede without making an unlit orbit shot.

Collect the maximum number of Extra Balls in one game.
Find every Souvenir combination (over any number of games).
Collect the Multipliers Held and Jets Held awards across 2 consecutive balls.
Add 2 balls to a regular Time Warp Frenzy.
Start a Time Warp Frenzy or Super Time Warp during Global Domination.
Score at least 500 Million points in one Global Domination.
Score at least 300 Million points in one Quickshot Mania.

oh, and by the way, I'd say Wizard Mode falls under "visit all time zones," hehe
try going around!

I think this is a generational thing, I like a few of them but only the major achievements. I grew up with games where "completing it" was the only goal. I still haven't reached The End of Time in Timeshock!

I'd agree, to some extend. If executed the wrong way, achievements are just useless reminders that you accomplished some goal in the game. Done right, however, they can provide extra challenges (that you might not have thought of yourself). Personally, I really like achievements (well, else I wouldn't have created this thread), but I still like to set my own goals when playing games, or enjoy a game for its own sake rather than playing it just to collect achievements.
