New Nvidia driver 331.40 causes issue

Postby Vince » Tue Oct 01, 2013 12:24 pm

I updated to the new Nvidia 331.40 driver. None of my games (TS, BRUSA, FJ) would start using this driver; I didn't write it down, but I was given some sort of draw error.

Rolling back to 327.23 fixes the issue. In Win7: Control Panel - System and Security - System - Device Manager (left column) - Display adapters - double click your adapter - Driver tab - Roll Back Driver.

If anyone has figured out how to set the 331.40 driver to function please let me know.

Cheers.

Later addition:

This is the error message I found in the FJ folder:

Blt() failed (88760037)"ERROR" in \pinball4\src\pc\win\display\ddraw.c:1653

The issue I have is reproducible by updating to 331.40, and goes away if I roll back to 327.23. I've tried to play around with 331.40 with no luck. Tried running as an administrator and compatibility mode with no luck.

I know I can use 327.23 for now, but I'm a little concerned that when Nvidia change driver again I may loose my, now favorite, pinball games! Anyone else have this issue, or ideas on fixing it?

I don't have this particular issue, but I had a similar one. On Linux, if I update to the latest NVidia driver, several games refuse to run and others do not display correctly because they (NVidia) totally changed the display interface. (They even state so on their forums).

My solution was the same as yours. To roll back to an earlier driver and lock the package using apt, so it will not update.

NVidia drivers used to be great, but it seems lately they are breaking things, so I just avoid it now until things settle down..

Exactly the same error on my windows PCs. Out of my head I don't know which version it is but I'm not using BETA drivers.

Hola,

I thought I should update this thread to tell you that the latest NVidia driver: 331.65 (release date 7/11/2013) makes everything work again.

I just got a new FJ high score too.
