Age option of tables

In what ways does the age option of the tables change the play (since it does not affect the looks)? Also, if it changes the play can games with these options be used for hi-scores, local and for submission to global hi-score tables?

It changes the friction of various surfaces and the power of flippers, sling-shots etc. Not final, but I would assume all online leader board results would have to be done on factory settings and local leader boards could be on any settings.
