HD, SSD or USB

Cabinet specific discussion

HD, SSD or USB

Postby insx » Sun Sep 22, 2013 8:24 am

Hi Folks

Those with cabinets, what do you boot from? I was thinking of going with USB as it is cheaper than SSD. I'm planning to avoid a standard hard disk as it might object to all the nudging and bang backs :)

Hi.

I have installed a SSD in my cab for booting.
It boots fast and an other advantage is that it makes no additional noise.

SSD would also be most durable for angry gaming sessions ;)

Because I'm trying to do this for as little money as possible, I'm going for an SD to SATA adaptor and SD card combination. The disadvantage is that it will only be as fast as a not very fast hard disk. If it lags too much, I will upgrade to a proper SSD at some point.

Cheers

Forget USB... too slow for games, especially loading the files.
USB-HDs are too slow, USB-Sticks are too expensive.

I use a normal HDD in my cab since 2.5 years, no problems at all, but I will insert a SSD soon, because of much better loading times!

My 32GB SD from Ebay turned out to be hacked so I got a refund. I forked out the extra money to go SSD. I wouldn't be happy to give the machine a good shove if it had a hard drive in it.
