Changing default key assigments

Postby adpag » Wed Dec 16, 2015 6:03 pm

The current version of the game does not support changing the default key assignments using the GUI. This will be added soon, but in the meantime, you can change the controls manually by editing the settings file:

Open the settings file, which for the backer version on Windows XP is

Code: Select all
C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Application Data\ProPinball\UserDefault.xml

or for the Steam version:

Code: Select all
C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Barnstorm Games\Pro Pinball Ultra\UserDefault.xml

On Vista and later for the backer version:

Code: Select all
C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\ProPinball\UserDefault.xml

For the Steam version:

Code: Select all
C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Barnstorm Games\Pro Pinball Ultra\UserDefault.xml

The control settings are the following, with 4 keys assignable for each control:

Code: Select all
    <controls_left_flipper_0>160</controls_left_flipper_0>
    <controls_right_flipper_0>161</controls_right_flipper_0>
    <controls_fire_0>13</controls_fire_0>
    <controls_start_0>83</controls_start_0>
    <controls_magnosave_0>8</controls_magnosave_0>
    <controls_nudge_0>32</controls_nudge_0>
    <controls_nudge_leftside_0>164</controls_nudge_leftside_0>
    <controls_nudge_rightside_0>165</controls_nudge_rightside_0>
    <controls_left_flipper_1>162</controls_left_flipper_1>
    <controls_right_flipper_1>163</controls_right_flipper_1>
    <controls_fire_1>-1</controls_fire_1>
    <controls_start_1>112</controls_start_1>
    <controls_magnosave_1>-1</controls_magnosave_1>
    <controls_nudge_1>-1</controls_nudge_1>
    <controls_nudge_leftside_1>-1</controls_nudge_leftside_1>
    <controls_nudge_rightside_1>-1</controls_nudge_rightside_1>
    <controls_left_flipper_2>-1</controls_left_flipper_2>
    <controls_right_flipper_2>-1</controls_right_flipper_2>
    <controls_fire_2>-1</controls_fire_2>
    <controls_start_2>-1</controls_start_2>
    <controls_magnosave_2>-1</controls_magnosave_2>
    <controls_nudge_2>-1</controls_nudge_2>
    <controls_nudge_leftside_2>-1</controls_nudge_leftside_2>
    <controls_nudge_rightside_2>-1</controls_nudge_rightside_2>
    <controls_left_flipper_3>-1</controls_left_flipper_3>
    <controls_right_flipper_3>-1</controls_right_flipper_3>
    <controls_fire_3>-1</controls_fire_3>
    <controls_start_3>-1</controls_start_3>
    <controls_magnosave_3>-1</controls_magnosave_3>
    <controls_nudge_3>-1</controls_nudge_3>
    <controls_nudge_leftside_3>-1</controls_nudge_leftside_3>
    <controls_nudge_rightside_3>-1</controls_nudge_rightside_3>

To change a setting, e.g. change left flipper left shift to 'Z' (key code 90), change the controls_left_flipper_0 value:

Code: Select all
<controls_left_flipper_0>90</controls_left_flipper_0>

Set a setting to -1 to make it unassigned. Save the file, then the next time you run the game, your new key assignments should take effect.

Thank you very much, works great on my cabinet now!

One more thing:
Please make sure that cabinet-users can start the game not only by mouse-clicking on "PLAY" (at the menu).
There should also be a key (ENTER, SPACE, ...) so that we have not to use the mouse for entering the playfield.
Much Better: An option that cabinet users can enter playfield without seeing the menu would be great! (Win-Boot-->Autostart-->Playfield)

By the way: Every button of the menu (mainmenu, options, ...) should be accessable by arrow-key or gamepad-buttons (not only by mouse).

Thanks a lot.

Yes, we'll need to make it more cab friendly so adding alternate ways to do things will need to be added.

Please also allow remapping of the arrow keys that are used for the operator menu.

if yous xpadder or similar just map the mouse movement and click to some buttons (if you have some left). works as a workaround.
