Resolutions available in new Timeshock?

Postby PinballFan » Tue Nov 17, 2015 4:58 pm

I suggest 16:10 resolutions such as 1680x1050, 1920x1200, 2304x1440, 2560x1600 and 3840x2400. Old tables also had 5 resolutions. They'll be fine for 16:9 monitors too and Pinball being a vertical game can benefit from them so, do you agree?

I think at least 1680 x 1050 exists now.

Is this pre rendered stuff like in the old games, also? I thought this is full 3d so switching the view should be more like a side effect easy thing to implement?

Can someone clear that up please?

Why not 3D?

because to render this image quality in real time you'll need grapics cards of the future.

May I ask for a rather technical explanation why this is not real-time 3D but pre-rendered?

Shouldnt it be possible to have high level of detail whithout using such advanced effects which are merely noticeable by a person?

are there statistics for how many objects and lights exist in the game, calculations that proove that it cant be calculated in realtime by a desktop pc with a mainstream graphics card?

I feel as if this could be a nice topic for a Master thesis for an informtics student.

Penguinator, thanks for your reply!

First, by having 3D in the game, I myself won't like it if the camera zooms or pans on its own. I would just want the fact that I could set the precise angle I want to look at the table.

Second, why photorealistic? Wasnt the old Timeshock so realistic that it blew everyones minds away? The graphics where awesome like that and I feel that the graphics of the current version of the game can also be like that without the need of pre rendering everything.

As said, a little research would be awesome here to specifically see which differences of the pre rendered version are seen by players in comparison to a real-time 3d version with current 3d-engines used for it with all their lightning and shadow effects and such.
